As technology has progressed, slowly it has been introduced into sport. It has been used to improve the accuracy and fairness of sports,it has been utilized to help design equipment and sportswear to reduce hindrances for athletes and also to create the best experiences for fans.
In 1964 an electronic automated timing system with a photo-finish mechanism was introduced into track events to improve accuracy to 1/100th of a second.
In 1997 The first-ever large LED screens to be seen in UK football stadiums were installed.
In 2000 Orad Hi-Tec Systems introduced virtual imaging including its Virtual World Record Line in professional swimming trials and events.
In 2006 Hawk-Eye was introduced in competitions and tennis players are allowed to challenge a number of umpire decisions per set.
In 2010 the Bradford Bulls became the first rugby team to use GPS tracking to collect data and stats on player performance.
All these technological advancements have helped each of these sports massively and they are constantly being improved and refined to create the best possible sporting experience.
