Design in my life: U-lock

I cycle every day and my bike is in constant use, but I find myself spending almost as much time locking my bike up as I do actually cycling. My bike U-lock is strong, simple and fairly simple to use, but as a designer, I believe there is huge room for improvement.

It is a simple mechanism where the horseshoe shape is disconnected from the bar, and then when you want to lock it up, you put it around your bike and lock both sides of the horseshoe into the bar. This requires the user to hold both parts in place whilst they lock with the key, which isn't the most user-friendly process at all.

Instead of this process, I would suggest instead a bike lock that comes as one piece and does not need to be disassembled at all. It could work as a clip mechanism were two parts of the locking clip together.

There are various bike locks out there that are much easier to use than the U-lock I own for example the LITELOK, which works with this clipping mechanism.
