For decades The UNICEF emergency relief team has been using the same tent structure for these emergency operations. With the climate changing and conditions being more difficult and unpredictable, there needed to be a change in the way things were done. After years of work, UNICEF has now released the High-performance tent.
What has been improved
- new anchoring system which keeps the tent well secured in all soil types
- straighter walls which produce 20% more floor space
- a 3 layered window system and a shade net
If the tents need to be used as hospitals then electrical and solar kits can be added as well as hard flooring. And soft inner liner can be added if there will be children around.
The importance of this product is huge, as in these post-disaster locations these tents must be very safe and secure and this new design provides this. Not only this but it allows the tents to be hot in winter and cold in summer, due to this 3 layered window system.
What I think is so ingenious about this design is its ability to cope with so many different climates. Its adaptability to go from one set of harsh conditions to another completely different environment, and provide the same safety and shelter to those who are in need. It has also been designed so that it is simple to put together and so the speed at which it can be assembled is also remarkable.
